SMOONSTYLE

Happy Birthday SMOONSTYLE! I can't believe that SMOONSTYLE is now officially 12-years-old! I will have a toast with a Radler :)

My heart still beats faster for make up, fragrances and fashion, but at the moment I am super busy with Epica, the Epica Universe and also my own Photography Patreon account, on which I also blog.

If you want to keep track of what I have been doing, you are most welcome to join my PATREON community. My blog will remain a beauty blog, where I will keep on posting from time to time. Soon we will be touring in the US, so I will probably do some beauty shopping at Ulta and Sephora ;)

Thank you all so much for following me here! I love you all!

xo,

Simone

Starting the Best of Beauty 2021 - Body with my favourite shower/bath products. I LOVE the L'Occitane Amande series. Last year, I discovered that this line also has a bath milk! Normally, I don't like to smell like food, but for almonds I will make a exception ;) For the shower oil, I always buy the refill and I also have a tiny little travel bottle that I can refill for whenever I am traveling. The scrub has small almond particles so no micro plastic will be going down the drain.

See any thing familiar? Yes! I am still using the Soft Oil Balea body cream, after all those years! I still love it till today! It is just perfect! Only little downside is that you can leave little oil/grease stains on light clothing and tables etc ;) I love to use this to give my arms and legs some glow. It smells divine and works wonders on my dry skin.

The Kneip Winter Edition shower gel is so soft and warm. It smells like a warm blanket feels haha! I am not a vanilla fan, but this is very subtle and not overly sweet. I have also used the shower foam from this, but I can't seem to find it anywhere anymore.

Weleda Skin Food 'Body Butter'. Oliver loves to use Weleda Skin Food for his face and I also love to use the lip oil. The face cream is a bit too rich for me. This body butter is perfect for winter, when my legs are dry like the sahara....

Last is the face! I have discovered La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra cream. My cheeks and under eye have been so dry and this does the trick. There is no perfume in it, I love the packaging. I accidentally bought the night cream, when I was in a hurry and found out later at home that I bought the wrong one haha!

Never forget sunscreen! The best anti ageing product ;) I wear this every day! Listen to me; your skin will thank you ;) I like to use the Nivea Q10 spf 50. I love the scent and it doesn't break me out. There is one that is more targeted for my skin (combination) that has a matte finish, but it doesn't sit nice on the skin.

Last is Vichy Normaderm Anti Age. My friend, who is a makeup artist, recommended this to me for break outs. I have been using it religiously ;) This is the best out of the whole line. I also use a scrub from this line that is really good. I forgot to put it in the picture haha ;)

The very last product that I also forgot to take a photo of is the Eubos hand cream. I also still repurchase this many years after creating my first blog post showing the hand cream.

What skin/body products do you swear by and have repurchased time after time?

Who doesn't love the DM drugstores in Germany? You go in to be tampons, and you come out with a bag filled with everything but tampons, because you forgot to buy tampons and everything else.....

Yes, that is me! I took Elize to Stuttgart yesterday and she suggested going to a DM. I promise I didn't force her inside a DM, she wanted to get some goodies and I didn't leave the store empty handed, as you can see.

I bought some staples and some new stuff that I would love to try.
All of my Tangle Teezers are falling apart and can't handle my mane at the moment, so I thought it was time to get back to getting an old-fashioned hair brush. I need a heavy duty hair brush and I got this one for Oliver a while back, so I had to get one for myself as well ;)

Currently, I have been loving the Schaebens Koffein Power Eye Pads! I tried all of them, and these are my favourites. They also look really cool. I suprised the mail main a couple of times, wearing these haha!

Do you see anything that you would like to buy? Do you like Haul posts?

One of the best comments, when I posted this collage on Instagram, was, that I have watched too many realistic cake videos. I have never really seen one until Vincent told me about this kind of video. I must be officially old now...

My talented friend Daniela Glunz shot these photos at my house last year. We had the best time! It ended n a colorful face painting session. I had rainbows coming out of my nose every time I would blow my nose after that day ;)  I wish it would be possible to do more shoots together, but we live far apart and the C virus is making it impossible at the moment.

I have been working on my photography website and did some shoots in the meantime.
I think it is time to change things up a bit and throw in some non-black and white photos on my Instagram page as well. My heart still lies with black and white photography, but I feel that the market is oversaturated with BW photography.

Feel free to have a look at my photography page and contact me if you'd like to book a shoot with me someday when the storm has calmed down.

Stay safe!

This how I spend most of my time when I am online. On the couch, underneath my blanket, with my laptop.

However, I do miss being on the road and the current situation sometimes gets the best of me.
Here is what I do to make myself feel better during the days where I am not feeling all that great:

1. I start my day with a large glass of water to wake up my body and get my metabolism going.
After my breakfast, I jump in the shower.
My all-time favorite shower oil is the Almond Shower Oil from L'Occitane. This has been a favorite of mine for many years. I have the 500ml version and always buy the refills. Like this you save plastic ;) I have lost count of how many times I have repurchased this shower oil.

2. Next, I pick a cozy outfit. I love to wear the high waisted leggings from Les Lunes and an oversized sweater. Staying in my pajamas or bathing robe all day is very tempting, but I am less productive if I don't get dressed.

3. It is the colder time of the year, which means that I drink more tea!
My current favorite tea is a spicy chai with almond milk. So yummy! I love the Yogi tea and the Bengal Spice from Celestial Seasonings.
My favorite almond milk is the Rewe Bio Mandeldrink. I also use this to make my cappuccinos.

4. This next step is not a must, but I love it! Apply some red lipstick. Even if I don't leave the house, I still like to get ready. This has the same effect as getting dressed for me. I feel more motivated to be productive and feel more put together. Going outside with masks has taken away the joy of applying lipstick, I mean, why bother? That is why, when I am at home I do apply lipstick and preferably also a bright one.
The lipstick I am wearing here is '346 Scarlet Silhouette from L'Oréal Paris'.

5. As tempting as it might be to stay in bed with my laptop, I choose the couch. I also sit a lot at our dinner table and my office. But the couch is a great alternative ;) I find it is a good compromise between the bed and the dinner table. A laptop is portable, so I can change my office during the day. I am used to be at different places every day, I don't like to be at the same spot ;)

How does your home office look like? Do you prefer to work from home, or on a different location?

Meet my new furry friends! Two super cute black cats. I don't know their names nor their owners. They are a bit on the chubby side, so I guess they weren't alley cats. They were very trusting and let me pet them for a while.

There is something special about black cats. I find them incredibly beautiful. I am not a superstitious person and rather think that black cats bring luck and joy ;) I fell in love with Thackery Binx from 'Hocus Pocus', back when I was a little girl.

Do you know that black cats are least likely to be adopted from animal shelters? I will take all of them if I only could. We got Minou from an animal shelter back in the day.

Luckily, our neighbor's cat Loki (who you see on my Instagram a lot), adopted us and all the other households around his house. We still get a lot of cat cuddles these days.

Are you also a fan of black cats?

Last week Oliver and I were wrapped up in his music studio, recording 'This is Halloween' from 'the Nightmare before Christmas' movie. Is there anybody out there that doesn't know this movie? Shame on you ;)
It is one of my favorite movies of all time. I've watched it a million times and will never get sick of it. It is perfect! Vincent loves it too!

When I asked Oliver if he would be willing to cover 'This is Halloween' with me, he immediately went to his studio to start with the orchestral arrangements. I can tell you it was so much fun to record this song! I loved singing those character voices.

Last year I received a wonderful present during our meet and greet. I got the whole 'Nightmare Before Christmas' metal figurines. I have displayed them in my living room and thought that it would be great to use them for the video as well. Thank you again to the girl that gifted them to me!

Thank you all so much for the lovely reactions, I've read all of them. Who knows, maybe I will upload more on Youtube soon ;)

Open up, I am going to feed you some delicious food for breakfast!

Raiza and me met up yesterday at a lovely Italian pasta restaurant called MISI in Brooklyn. MISI is the 'sister' restaurant from LILIA. Apparently Lilia is booked for a long time in advance, after Barack Obama recommended the restaurant. MISI is a little bit more underground, but the food is just as scrumptious!

Luckily, my sinus infection has gotten much better, so my palette almost back and I can finally taste again! Hallelujah!! That is one of the worst things about being sick for food lovers like myself.

Raiza knew what to get from the menu from previous experience, so I fully trusted her to choose for me. We ordered two starters, along with two Aperol Spritz'. Gotta have that Aperol Spritz ;)

Starters

Charred peppers, marjoran with whipped ricotta crustini
Delicata squash, honey, rosemary, smoked ricotta garlic bread crumbs

Main Course

Spinach and mascarpone filled tortelli, brown butter, ricotta salata
Sheep's milk ricotta filled occhi, bottarga, lemon

Dessert

Mint stracciatella ice cream with coffee

Everything is made from scratch. I could see one of the staff members preparing the pasta. I was mesmerised. Pasta is one of the few dishes where I never trusted myself to make it myself. Maybe I should give it a go?

Thank you Raiza for a lovely dinner for breakfast with mouth-watering dishes!
I can wholeheartedly recommend Misi. It is a bit on the pricey side, but well worth it!

Misi New York

Raiza has one of the most contagious smiles in the world!

Delicata Squash

Spinach Mascarpone Tortelli

Sheep's milk Ricotta filled Occhi with lemon. Aren't these super cute?!

If you are in Brooklyn and you are a pasta lover, you will not regret paying a visit to MISI.

First blog post of 2020!

Happy New Year everybody!!!! All the best wishes to you, health and happiness for 2020!

On the first of January, I travelled to Amsterdam to join the group for our North- American DYU adventure. You might say I started the year of right, travelling on the first day of the new year.
New Years Eve was fun and most of all delicious. We spend it with friends and had a lovely Swiss cheese fondue. I made the dessert for the evening. It was an orange tiramisu. The recipe that I used was from Sally's Welt.

On the 2nd of January I met with the group at Schiphol. We had two flights ahead of us, going first to Toronto and then to Montréal. Our first flight was delayed by almost 4 hours, meaning that we missed our connection flight to Montréal. It was quite the adventure getting to Montréal. We arrived around 1.30 am Montréal time, completely exhausted.

The day of the show was hard for me, I was falling asleep in the restaurant while eating me dinner. Jet lag can hit you hard. The show was great, but in my mind felt like it was a dream. It was a sold out show and the audience pulled me through the jet lag.

On the 4th we flew to LA via Atlanta, two more flights and a lot of sneezes later I became ill. It starts with that soar throat, the excessive sneezing and tired eyes. I tried really hard to battle the first signs of a cold with all the natural remedies I knew, but it was too late.

Luckily the weather in LA was so nice, that I tried to get a lot of vitamin D. I had plans to go out and about in LA, visit my favourite Donut show (Voodoo Donuts), but decided to stay at the venue to rest and enjoy the sun.

Isaac and I grabbed my camera and had a spontaneous shoot in the back alley of the Regent. The sun was hitting just right and I love how these images turned out!

For the whole duration of the 70000 tons of Metal Cruise, I was really sick and had to medicate my way through the shows and the All Star Jam.

Keeping my fingers crossed that the worst is behind me. I am so happy that my voice is unaffected.

Hope you like the photos!

Time to talk about Men's Health - Movember

The Movember foundation was founded in 2003. What started as an idea to grow a moustache during the month November with 30 moustaches turned into 5 million moustaches and so much more.
I can't grow a moustache, although I really did try;) What I can do is tell you about this great cause and by doing so, I hope to be able to contribute to raise awareness about men's health worldwide.

November is the month when the Movember Foundation is raising awareness about men's health. There are many different ways how you can join the community and get the conversation started on men's health.

The biggest health issues men deal with are: prostate cancer, testicular cancer, mental health and suicide. Men are dying too young and I think that it is time to break the stigma around mental illness.
Why is there a stigma? Why do men always need to be strong and masculine? Men and women are build from the same flesh and blood and can experience the same wide range of emotions.

Guys are meant to be strong and not show too much emotion. Men don't cry.
That is all bullshit if you ask me.

The majority of men don't talk about how they feel, because they fear of being judged and being perceived as weak.
Let me tell you, if you seek help, you are anything but weak! You are incredibly strong and courageous for opening up.

Women that suffer from depression are more likely to ask for help. Depression amongst men unfortunately often ends in suicide. That is why the numbers of depression amongst men are not accurate, because they don't seek help and start therapy.

We need to ask and tell each other more often how we are feeling. Don't just assume that everything is ok. Ask again how someone is feeling and offer support. It can mean the world to them.
Some people are really good at putting on a mask, so that they can hide the fact that they are going through a rough patch or even having suicidal thoughts.
Reach out and help each other. Listen to what the other has to say. You might save someones or your own life by doing this.

So what can we do to support Movember? You can visit their website and donate if you can, spread awareness and open your eyes to your friends and family around you.

On top of that, L'Oréal Menexpert is donating €1 per sold Beard Oil to the Movember Foundation.

Today exactly 9 years ago, I posted my first blog post on SMOONSTYLE. It was a bit scary to click  the 'publish' button and go online. It was just a simple post about the clouds and an introduction to the blog. Can you believe that my blog is already 9-years-old? Time flies!

9 years later I can tell you that I still enjoy exactly the same things and have the same 'hobbies'.
Photography is no longer just a hobby, it has turned into a real job and I am happy to say that I have created my own photography studio, specialized in portrait photography.
You might have seen some of my work online. Feel free to have a look at www.simonesimons.com The blogposts have become more professional and the photos as well. The quantity of posts has been less, but the quality has improved. I think that blog really benefits from me knowing which buttons and dials do what on my camera ;)

Thank you all so very much for your kind words and support! It is a great community of metalhead that share my love for beauty and photography!

I still intend to keep my blog up and running, but we all know that Instagram is the place to be and that is another social media platform where I have been dedicating a lot of my time to as well. I have been enjoying making videos for IGTV as well and the response is amazing!

Whenever I put a lot of effort in creating a long blogpost with many photos, it ends up being on Instagram within minutes, so sometime I wonder: Why should I bother?
Still my blog is where it all started and where I will still return to, even though I am more active on Instagram.

Do you guys still like to visit blogs or are you more into Instagram as well? Well, enough ranting from this blogging grandma ;)

I have a really special giveaway for you! Susie from www.my-beauty-light.de was kind enough to send my three Beauty Lights for a give away. I have been loving the beauty light for a long time and have recommended it to so many friends and colleagues.  It was actually my friend Florentine that recommended it to me in the first place, so I am still thankful for her showing it to me.

Here are the giveaway rules:

- Leave a comment in this post what you like the most about my blog and what you would like to see more of in the future.
- If you are under 18, you need to have a written approval from your parents that you are allowed to enter the giveaway.
- The giveaway is worldwide

The three lucky winner will be announced on Monday the 9th of September

GOOD LUCK!

Jumpsuits and I have never been friends. With my 1.68 cm I mostly am too short to wait them. I look like a child in a grown ups clothes. They are mostly targeted at taller women than me.

The Caracilia jumpsuit made out of jersey is a great fit for my body. The material is soft and very comfortable. I can honestly say that I have been kind of living in this jumpsuit ever since I got it.

The only down side is the toilet situation. You need to strip down more with this outfit.
Do you girls like jumpsuits? Do you find them unpractical or you don't mind the undressing part?

Finally I can finish this post that I have been working on in between many other projects. Another new Natasha Denona palette. This is one is for all make up lovers and in particular for the neutral lovers. A staple for everyone to have in your small or large make up collection.

The formula of these eyeshadows are to die for. My favorite are the creme to powder. I love the feel of them and they blend like a dream. All shades are super pigmented, but some swatch different from how they look in the pan.

On Instagram Stories I've showed you a day time look. This look is definitely a bit more edgy, more of night time look or in my case a great stage make up. Pair it with a nude lip and you are good to go. You can go extra bold and add a dark lip. Your face is your canvas and you can do as you please ;)

For this look I used three shades of the Biba palette: Spot, Coco and Seed. It is a classic black cat eye that I smoked out with the brown shades. It gives it a bit more warmth and depth. On the outer corners of my eyes I've added some false lashes to add to the drama and make me feel extra feline.

The make up brushes that I used to create his look are basically only two, an angled brush and a pencil brush. It is a simple look that can be created with little tools and shades. Of course you can use any colors to recreate this particular look.

The Biba Palette has a nice range of neutrals that can use alone or to compliment any other eyeshadow palette. The black is the most pigmented that I have seen on the market. A good black is so important for any look if you ask me.

For me this is a must have palette for everyone that loves make up. The quality is top notch and the price is absolutely justified.

Let me know in the comments if you enjoy the Insta Stories tutorials and I will create more using this palette, because there are so many different eyeshadow looks that you can create with the Biba palette.

Thank you Natasha for sending me this gem. I will treasure it!

You can get your palette here: All Neutral Biba Palette $129.00 *

* PR Sample

It is out of stock at the moment (hoping it will be in stock soon again)
