Starting the Best of Beauty 2021 - Body with my favourite shower/bath products. I LOVE the L'Occitane Amande series. Last year, I discovered that this line also has a bath milk! Normally, I don't like to smell like food, but for almonds I will make a exception ;) For the shower oil, I always buy the refill and I also have a tiny little travel bottle that I can refill for whenever I am traveling. The scrub has small almond particles so no micro plastic will be going down the drain.

See any thing familiar? Yes! I am still using the Soft Oil Balea body cream, after all those years! I still love it till today! It is just perfect! Only little downside is that you can leave little oil/grease stains on light clothing and tables etc ;) I love to use this to give my arms and legs some glow. It smells divine and works wonders on my dry skin.

The Kneip Winter Edition shower gel is so soft and warm. It smells like a warm blanket feels haha! I am not a vanilla fan, but this is very subtle and not overly sweet. I have also used the shower foam from this, but I can't seem to find it anywhere anymore.

Weleda Skin Food 'Body Butter'. Oliver loves to use Weleda Skin Food for his face and I also love to use the lip oil. The face cream is a bit too rich for me. This body butter is perfect for winter, when my legs are dry like the sahara....

Last is the face! I have discovered La Roche-Posay Toleriane Ultra cream. My cheeks and under eye have been so dry and this does the trick. There is no perfume in it, I love the packaging. I accidentally bought the night cream, when I was in a hurry and found out later at home that I bought the wrong one haha!

Never forget sunscreen! The best anti ageing product ;) I wear this every day! Listen to me; your skin will thank you ;) I like to use the Nivea Q10 spf 50. I love the scent and it doesn't break me out. There is one that is more targeted for my skin (combination) that has a matte finish, but it doesn't sit nice on the skin.

Last is Vichy Normaderm Anti Age. My friend, who is a makeup artist, recommended this to me for break outs. I have been using it religiously ;) This is the best out of the whole line. I also use a scrub from this line that is really good. I forgot to put it in the picture haha ;)

The very last product that I also forgot to take a photo of is the Eubos hand cream. I also still repurchase this many years after creating my first blog post showing the hand cream.

What skin/body products do you swear by and have repurchased time after time?

xo

As I write this post, snow is falling outside. It has been a strange winter in New England, and my skin definitely felt the effects in the form of — cue ominous music — dry skin.

Dry skin is a condition that can be quite annoying; it is physically uncomfortable with itchiness and redness, but can also throw a wrench in your makeup routine when foundation patches on problem areas.

I was determined to find a solution and discovered two must-have products that cure this skin care slump.

Here's what to do:

Step 1: Refrain from exfoliation

Put the exfoliator down... It seems like the right move, but it is not. Exfoliating can further strip the skin of oil and lead to more dryness, pain, and potential breakouts.

Instead, we want to add moisture, which leads to...

Step 2: Hydrate... then hydrate some more

To heal skin and restore balance, I used a new product, the 100% Extra Virgin Coconut Oil by SheaMoisture. It boasts, "Head-to-Toe Nourishing Hydration," and it absolutely lived up to its claim. Natural triglycerides found in coconut oil help skin retain moisture, so once applied, my face instantly felt better. After a few days of use, paired with Step 3, my skin was supple and smooth again.

Product Bonuses:

  • Cruelty-free
  • Ethically Traded & Sustainably Produced
  • Certified Organic & Natural Ingredients
  • Use on Skin & Hair (see you later split ends!)
  • Natural Makeup Remover
  • Reduces Fine Lines & Wrinkles
  • Great Shelf Life

Step 3: Apply Hyaluronic Serum, your skin-saving hero

I wish I had known the benefits of Hyaluronic Serum sooner, but better late than never, right? So now the real question... what's so great about it?

Hyaluronic Serum is a moisture retainer that occurs naturally in the body. When applied topically, it transfers moisture to your skin, strengthening the outer layers. I used the Hydrating Hyaluronic Serum by Aroma Dreams. For best results, I recommend using this product in the evening after washing your face and paired with a night cream.

Product Bonuses:

  • Paraben-free
  • Cruelty-free
  • Travel-ready (container is 1 fluid ounce)
  • Reduces Fine Lines & Wrinkles
Please Note: If your skin becomes red or irritated, discontinue use!

Hopefully, the steps and products above will help resolve your dry skin dilemma. What products and methods do you use to treat dry skin? Please share them in the comments below!

Traveling is one of the most fun and rewarding aspects of being alive – it takes you outside the safety of home to experience different cultures and exist in a state of wonder. Not only will you learn how other people live, but also discover more about yourself and how you adapt to change. At times, your resolve will be tested, but traveling will transform your life; you'll see the world with fresh eyes and, hopefully, taste some amazing cuisine, which is my favorite part of the journey! :)

On a recent trip to the Netherlands to support EPICA with their first edition of EPIC METAL FEST, I brought a bit of home with me: my skincare routine. The amount of products I could bring was limited as I did not check my bags and airport security allows only one quart-sized bag filled with products, each weighing a maximum of 3.4 ounces (100ml). Less equaled more in this situation as I also needed room for liquid makeup, but I was ready for the challenge! Items marked with an asterisk were put in the liquids bag.

1. Yes To Grapefruit Pore Perfection Paper Mask | 2. Yes to Grapefruit Correct & Repair Even Skin Moisturizer | 3. Yes to Blueberries Cleansing Facial Wipes | 4. Acure Eye Cream | 5. Acure Night Cream | 6. MenScience Androceuticals Face Buff Brush | 7. Alba Botanica Good & Clean Daily Detox Foaming Cleanser

Yes To Grapefruit Pore Perfection Paper Mask

High altitudes can cause skin to lose moisture, so this mask came in handy to replenish my face after a long flight. The Pore Perfection Paper Mask increases brightness, hydrates skin, and minimizes pores with a grapefruit extract brightening serum and vitamin C. I used this mask at night to prep for makeup application the next morning and it worked flawlessly – my skin felt supple with reduced redness. The mask is quite saturated so it's best to lie down and close your eyes in order to get an even application, plus it's a good excuse to relax and take a little time for yourself. :)

Yes to Grapefruit Correct & Repair Even Skin Moisturizer*

My favorite daily moisturizer that has the same benefits as the Pore Perfection Paper mask and a TSA-compliant container size of 1.4 ounces (41.4 milliliters) – just purchase and throw in your suitcase. To learn more about this product, please read my last post: 4 Face Products Finds.

Yes to Blueberries Cleansing Facial Wipes

Facial wipes are a staple travel product and really come in handy when you're on-the-go – it's perfect to keep in your purse during the day should you need a skin refresh or to reapply makeup. I used this product to clean my face during flights and to help remove makeup at night. Utilizing blueberry, coconut, and lemon peel, these Age Refresh wipes remove impurities, brighten tone, and moisturize the skin – as a bonus, they also smell good.

Acure Eye & Night Cream*

Since I loved using their Brightening Facial Scrub, I wanted to try more from the Acure product line. The eye and night cream were on my radar for some time, but I was waiting for the perfect situation to test them out. Since both creams are in small containers, the eye cream is 1 ounce (30ml) and the night cream is 1.75 ounces (50ml), they fit my travel criteria and instantly went in my shopping cart. I also love that Acure is a natural product line and doesn't test on animals! Both products firm, hydrate, and restore skin with the help of Chlorella, which stimulates new collagen growth. The eye cream reduced dark circles and puffiness and allowed my under eye concealer to go on smoothly; I applied it every morning and night. The night cream helped restore my skin after a long day out in the cold and the Moroccan Argan Oil in this product instantly went to work and hydrated my skin for the night. Dream products at an affordable price, go get them!

Facial Cleansing Brush

If you're not using a facial cleansing brush, you should be! :) It thoroughly cleanses the skin (especially if you wear makeup) and when traveling, replaces an exfoliator, meaning one less product to bring. I have a 2-speed rotating facial cleansing brush but found it too harsh on my skin, so I purchased a standard brush to have more control of the cleaning process. If you'd like to get one for yourself, make sure the bristles are gentle enough for your skin or it may create redness and irritation.

How to Use a Facial Cleansing Brush:
  • Run hot water over the bristles to soften and prep them, making sure to shake any extra water off or your cleanser will get runny.
  • Place a small amount of your facial cleanser to the brush and apply to your skin in a circular motion. Since the brush helps exfoliate, if needed, focus on your T-zone to help clear any congested pores and promote faster cell turnover.
  • Rinse your gorgeous face!
Favorite Cleansing Brushes:
  • Bass Brushes Facial Cleansing Brush
  • MenScience Androceuticals Face Buff Brush

Alba Botanica Daily Detox Foaming Cleanser*

I mentioned Alba Botanica in my first post and wanted to talk about their Foaming Cleanser, which I like to use in colder months for its rich lather and creamy texture, plus it works perfectly with the facial cleansing brush. This product is great for sensitive skin and has a gentle antioxidant-rich botanical AHA peel (additional help with exfoliation) – paired with ingredients of Green Tea and Rice, it powerfully cleanses and soothes skin without causing irritation. I used this cleanser day and night and my skin maintained a refreshed and balanced look. The original container is 6 ounces (180ml), so it needed to be transferred to a travel bottle, but that was the only skincare product in my liquids bag that was outside its original packaging.

What skincare products do you use when traveling? Let me know in the comments below!

Hi Everyone!

I'm always on the hunt for new skincare products and today I'd like to share some recent face product purchases with you. I'm absolutely in love with all these items, so much in fact that they are part of my weekly skincare routine. :)

Let's have a look!

1. Pacifica Sea Foam Complete Face Wash

To help keep my face fresh and clean, I recently switched to a gel cleanser as it removes more dirt and oil that I unfortunately accumulate more of in warmer weather. This product utilizes Papaya Extract to soften skin and subtly exfoliate, Coconut Water to tone and balance, and Sea Algae Extract to aid in moisturizing and promote brightness. My skin felt deep cleansed but balanced after use and it's amazing at removing makeup. I don't wear a lot of makeup, but this cleanser took my mascara and concealer off in one wash. If any readers wear full makeup and use this wash, I'd love to know how it worked for you!

This face wash perfectly cleanses, is cruelty- and sulfate-free, made for all skin types, plus removes makeup like a champion. How much better does it get?

2. Acure Brightening Face Scrub

My holy grail of exfoliation... this is a rare gem and one of my all-time favorites. I've used exfoliators for a long time and no other products, besides professional-grade spa formulas, have left my skin so refined, bright and smooth. Organic Sea Kelp and Lemon Peel are the main exfoliators and French Green Clay removes any impurities. As a bonus, Organic Chlorella and Argan Stems promote new cell growth and skin repair while Madonna Lilly Stem Cells brighten. I particularly like the brightening benefit of this product as it makes the rinse and reveal more satisfying.

To top it off, this exfoliator is vegan, Fair Trade Certified Organic, the packaging is 100% biodegradable, and the formula is free of sulfate, PEG, petroleum, phthalate, silicone, gluten, and synthetic fragrance – all of these bonuses are a major win for those concerned with animal testing and healthy ingredients.

3. Lush Eau Roma Water

A total splurge but absolutely worth it, the Eau Roma Water by Lush is heaven in a bottle and a must-have if your skin is sensitive. This product is a blend of Rose and Lavender Water that helps hydrate skin without causing it to overreact – especially helpful in hotter weather when skin might have imbalance and be prone to breakouts. A perfect skin refresher, this toner is great to incorporate into your morning and night skincare routines. If applied before face lotion it quickly absorbs your day cream and perfectly primes skin for makeup. When my under eye is a bit dry, I'll apply this to my face to instantly hydrate the area and allow a smoother concealer application.

In regards to aromatherapy, the scent of Lavender (one of my favorite scents) aids in mood balancing and promotes calm and relaxation. This multi-functional product feels, smells, and looks good, plus has extra mind and body benefits, so it will always be in my skincare regiment.

4. Yes To Grapefruit Even Skin Tone Moisturizer with SPF 15

The newest addition to my skincare collection, this face lotion found its way into my beauty arsenal because it's cruelty-free, has SPF and helps even skin tone. I swear by a daily SPF moisturizer to protect my skin from sun damage so it was a pleasant surprise to see and feel how quickly this product absorbs into the skin – other lotions I've used tend to leave a greasy residue which isn't great for makeup application and seems to fall off the face if you go outside on a hot day.

As for diminishing dark spots, I have noticed an improvement in the overall tone of my skin. The promoted ingredients used in the formula are Grapefruit (high in antioxidants Vitamin C and Lycopene) and Moringa Oil (moisturizing fatty acids plus Vitamins A and C) – a great combination that my skin loves. When I first applied this product I had major skin discoloration from a recent breakout and was thrilled to see that after just one week of use, the dark spots disappeared nicely. Fantastic product, love it a lot and highly recommend!

Have you recently fallen in love with a new skincare product? If so, list your face product favs in the comments below! It's always fun to share beauty secrets and try out new brands. :)

PURIFY: Activated Charcoal Mask

If your skin looks and feels out of balance, an activated charcoal mask will give a much needed reset. Activated Charcoal draws out impurities and when paired with Tea Tree Oil, gives pores a deep cleanse. As an extra layer of protection, Aloe Vera calms inflammation and helps skin heal. This recipe is from True North Inspire and an alternative to Origins Clear Improvement® Active Charcoal Mask.

Results: My skin looked and felt amazing after using this mask – it was squeaky clean but balanced and with noticeable improvement in complexion. I highly recommend having this mask in your beauty arsenal!

Before you begin: Activated charcoal is messy, especially if you're opening capsules. Unless you have the time and patience, I'd strongly suggest buying powder-only. And as always, have clean hands when making face masks and avoid eye area during application.

Ingredients:
  • 4-ounce Mason Jar
  • Activated Charcoal (35 capsules or 10 grams of powder)
  • ≈ 4 ounces Clear Aloe Vera Gel
  • Tea Tree Oil (8-10 drops)
Instructions: Measure a little less then 4 ounces of Clear Aloe Vera Gel and place into your Mason Jar. You want enough gel to fill the jar but have room at the top to place and close the lid. Next, incorporate the Activated Charcoal and Tea Tree Oil – mix well and let sit for 10 minutes (this allows the mask to thicken). Once applied, leave the mask on for 10 minutes or until it has dried. Rinse with warm water and a damp face cloth.

BRIGHTEN: Egg Mask

This next recipe, from The Kitchen McCabe, is an alternative to Alba Botanica – Even Advanced™ Deep Sea Facial Mask and uses Eggs, Honey and Lemon Juice to perfectly brighten and lighten any complexion and create a more calm and even skin tone. As a plus, this nourishing mask also helps clear breakouts and tighten pores.

Results: I was surprised with how radiant my skin looked after use – this mask is amazing at brightening! Also, the pores around my T-zone were less noticeable, so I'll definitely continue to make and incorporate this recipe into my skincare routine.

Ingredients:
  • 4-ounce Mason Jar
  • 2 Egg Whites
  • 1 tablespoon of Honey (100% pure or raw)
  • 1 tablespoon of Fresh Lemon Juice
Instructions: Measure and whisk all ingredients together in your Mason Jar until completely incorporated and the surface has a frothy appearance. Apply mask and leave on for 30 minutes, then rinse with warm water. Keep mask sealed and in the refrigerator – shelf life is 1 week (best to use fresh!).

HYDRATE: Avocado Mask

Avocado is excellent for your skin, whether applied topically or consumed. Rich in antioxidants vitamins A and E, avocado aids in hydration and helps repair damaged or dry skin. When paired with the intense moisturizing and anti-inflammatory properties of Yogurt, this DIY delight is perfect for post-beach day pampering or when your skin needs a little pick-me-up. This recipe was found at Sincerely, Kinsey and is an alternative to Origins Drink Up™ Intensive Overnight Mask.

Results: This recipe leaves your skin baby butt smooth (seriously) and has a cooling effect that is refreshing and lasts a while after rinsing. Make this mask right now, you won't regret it.

Ingredients:
  • 4-ounce Mason Jar
  • 1 ripe Avocado
  • 2 tablespoon of Honey (100% pure or raw)
  • 1/3 – 1/2 cup of Greek Yogurt or Plain Yogurt (organic, no additives)
  • 1 teaspoon of Fresh Lemon Juice
  • Mixing Bowl & Spoon
  • Hand Mixer
Instructions: Measure and place all ingredients in a Mixing Bowl and roughly incorporate with a Mixing Spoon. For a super smooth consistency, finish blending with a Hand Mixer. Finally, transfer mixture to Mason Jar, seal and keep refrigerated – shelf life is 1 week (best to use fresh!). When applying this mask, leave on for 30 minutes and rinse with warm water.

Consider this the biggest Beauty Bin up to date. I accumulated a hoarder's amount of lotions and potions. I should do BB more often. Like that, my house won't drown in empty packages.

Like last time, I will divide them into Face, Hair, Body and this time I've added Make Up.
Get yourself something to snack and a drink because it will be quite the list.

♡ SIMONE

FACE

Bebe More Brighten- Up Day creme  (2x) A nice light day creme, perfect for mixed skin types. I do find that it stings my eyes a bit, so try to stay away from them.
Bebe More Bedtime Beauty A thicker consistancy than the Brighten- Up Day creme. I wanted to try it out, but found it too rich for my skin type.
L'Oreal Waterproof make up remover Great, but not the best.
Alverde Clear Peeling face mask I loved this because it didn't irritate my skin. It helped with the impurities and left my skin nice and soft.
Maybelline Waterproof make up remover Hoarding this big time. For me close to the best, but I need more to get rid of the waterproof mascaras. They are a b.i.t.ch to get off!
Weleda Mandel (almond) Face creme (2x) I tried my best, but after two tubes, I couldn't get used to the weird feeling of having a layer on my skin. It felt as if my skin didn't absorb it. Better for dry skin.
L'Oreal Micellar Solution Water Tried it, went back to Bioderma.
Kryolan Waterproof Eye make up remover For me the best to remove waterproof mascara. Kryolan nailed it! It is a bit pricier than the Maybelline, but it lasts longer. No stinging eyes. Very comfortable. Need to get me some new ones asap.

BODY

Eubos Sensitive hand creme Still my all time favorite hand creme. My holy grail for dry hands.
Vaseline Spray and Go Moisturizer Pure Oat Extract Perfect for a thin layer of lotion, not a miracle product. The scent is not my thing, but I love the idea of spray lotions.
Vaseline Spray and Go Moisturizer Aloe Now here is more my scent. I love how aloe has a cooling effect on the skin. Perfect for hot summer days.
Rituals Wai Gang body scrub My favorite scent of the whole Rituals range. White lotus and Yi Yi Ren. Great scrub. Only downside is the bottle. You gotta work the muscles to squeeze it out.
Balea Soft Oil Balm body lotion You know this one, right? A must for every girl!
Dusch Das Golden Cashmere deo roller Love this scent and that it works. No more smelly armpits.
Kneipp Nachtkerze shower gel  A very soft and scent and great for sensitive skin. It did hydrate my skin.

HAIR

Anderson Oil and Care shampoo Will not buy this. Made my hair grease up on the day I washed it. Way too rich and makes the hair weigh down. Will not buy this again. It was an emergency purchase.
Paul Mitchell Keratin Intensive Treatment If it weren't for the price, I would buy this more often. I go through conditioners like crazy. It would just get too pricy. It is great, but too expensive.
Balea Deep Cleanse Shampoo I like to crunch up my hair with texture sprays and put oil in the ends of my hair. This is a good shampoo to get rid of all the build up and isn't too harsh for my hair.
Andrelon Keratine Repair Conditioner There you have an affordable conditioner that I really seem to like ;) Still using this on a two daily basis. I wash my hair every second day. The Dutch drugstore 'Kruidvat' often has two for one. My mom always stocks me up. Rob helped me out once too.

MAKE UP

Manhattan Endless Stay Make-Up 62 Porcelain (2x) A super affordable and great medium to full coverage foundation. They changed the packaging and the formula a bit. I loved that it came in squeeze tubes for traveling, but I did sometimes blob out too much.
Maybelline Age rewind concealer in Light (2x) Love this for highlighting. Not enough coverage for (my) under eye area.
Kryolan Lip Stain in Rock My color red that I have been wearing for The Quantum Enigma photo shoots and shows. It is a super opaque red that stays on like a dream. Already on my second tube.
Estee Lauder Double Wear Maximum Cover in Vanilla My secret concealer for those days where you just need it. I also love to use it for the stage because it is a great stage/night time full coverage foundation. For day time I find it too heavy. It also emphasizes the pores and oxidizes. Funny story is that I wore this during giving birth (yes, I wore make up). It stayed on during my water birth.
L'Oreal Super Liner in Brown One of my staples. It is a beautiful dark brown liquid liner with a glossy finish.
Essence Studio Nails fast drying top coat It is ok, still doesn't come close to Seche Vite.
Ebelin Nail Polish remover without acetone Always have this in my house and travel bag. I should switch up to a new one. My nails have been in a horrible condition lately. Split and weak. Do you guys know a good one?
Ebelin Nail Polish remover pads without acetone These are more forgiving for the nails, but it lasts longer to get the nail polish off and I don't have the patience for that ;)

Does your skincare routine include face mask application? Face masks are an essential step to create beautiful skin and today I’d like to share three of my favorites that purify, brighten and hydrate.

PURIFY

Origins Clear Improvement® Active Charcoal Mask  |  SEPHORA

This is my go-to mask when my skin is misbehaving. I love the Origins product line because they’re free of parabens and harsh chemicals and are also made with natural and certified organic ingredients.

The main ingredient that helps draw out and absorb impurities, such as bacteria and oil, is Activated Charcoal, which has a high-absorption capacity. Once removed, these impurities attach to the charcoal’s surface and are rinsed away.

After this mask is applied, wait for 10 minutes or until it has dried on your face and then gently remove with warm water. You’ll look like a monster initially, but once this product works it’s magic it will reveal beautiful skin that looks and feels more balanced and clear.

I apply this charcoal mask two times per week, but it can be used as needed and works for all skin types; definitely one of the best masks I’ve ever used.

BRIGHTEN

Alba Botanica – Even Advanced™ Deep Sea Facial Mask  |  Alba Botanica

Alba has become another brand favorite of mine because not only are their ingredients 100% vegetarian but cruelty-free as well, which means no animal testing (look for the bunny icon!). When my skin looks dull, this is the mask I use to brighten my complexion and create a more even tone.

Kaolin Clay plus Alba’s Marine Complex promotes uniform tone and equalizes pigment to make skin look more radiant. In five minutes any dulling impurities are removed and it gives my skin a gentle restart. I find this mask especially helpful after I’ve been out all day (or night) and environmental or personal stress begins to show.

This product is so luxurious – whipped texture, clean smell and smooth application – plus, it breathes life back into my skin. To make the experience more luxurious, I apply it slowly with a clean face brush.

HYDRATE

Origins Drink Up™ Intensive Overnight Mask  |  SEPHORA

Overnight masks are new territory for me but the current winter weather has made my skin feel dry so I decided to try this product and it’s a miracle worker! This mask uses Avocado and Apricot Kernel Oil to provide powerful hydration and moisture replacement without upsetting skin – perfect for those on the sensitive side.

Because this mask is applied before bed, I didn’t place any other product on my face (except under eye cream) so as not to skew the results. Fortunately, this mask also contains Japanese Seaweed, which helps repair skin and prevent premature aging, so I went to sleep a happy girl.

In the morning, my skin was glowing, baby smooth and rebalanced. I would highly recommend this to anyone experiencing dry skin issues, whether temporary or consistent – the formula is gentle and can be applied generously or sparsely depending on your situation.

FACE MASK TIPS & TRICKS

  • Always apply masks to fresh, clean skin and be sure your face isn't wet.
  • Keep hair tied back so it doesn’t interfere during application. The feeling of hair dried to your face is not pleasant!
  • For best results, make sure your pores are open prior to application – the easiest way is to soak a towel in hot water, wring it out and place over your face for five minutes.
  • If applying mask with your hands, make sure they’re clean – hand hygiene prevents contamination and potential breakouts.
  • Avoid contact with eyes and lips.
  • Keep the mask on as long as directed.
  • Make sure you relax! Face masks are a way to pamper yourself so take this time to unwind and clear your head.
  • Wash away your mask with warm water, then splash cold water on your face to close pores.

In my next post I’ll show how to make these masks at home, DIY-style! If you use the products featured in this post, let me know in the comments below. If not, what’s your favorite face mask and why? Even better, if you have more tips and tricks, share with us!
