Russian Mood

by 8.9.10

Tomorrow will be the first time for me to set foot on Russian ground. I am so excited and curious to find out what it is like in Russia.

I have some Russian friends. They all wanted to come with me when I told them that I was going to Russia.

Funny fact is that the nail polish I put on today from OPI is called; 'Midnight in Moscow', which was pure coincidence. It's one of my top 10 nail polishes and it is lovely for this time of year.

Here you see one of my most beloved tea flavors: 'Russian Earl Grey' by Lipton. I drink at least one a day. They also have many other great flavors, but Earl Grey has been my favorite ever since I can remember.

At the moment I am reading this book by Tim Burton. I'd like to 'read' the first story to you;

'Stick Boy and Match Girl in Love

Stick Boy liked Match Girl
he liked her a lot.
He liked her cute figure,
he thought she was hot.
But could a flame ever burn
for a match and a stick?
It did quite literally;
he burned up pretty quick.

Thanks to Nina for this lovely birthday gift! Until next time!

Love,

    If you've not tried it yet, you must try the drink "kvaas" in Russia. It is basically a bread drink (usually w/black or rye bread). If you try it from a street vendor, be careful. They typically only have one cup for everyone & they will insist that they've "cleaned" the cup in between customers. It is the kind of drink that you will either love or hate...but it's worth a try at least ;)

    Each story has its own Burton charm, but "Staring Girl" & "Anchor Baby" are my faves at the moment. :)

  9. I've been to St.Petersburg a few years ago and it was amazing. Once you get over how different the air seems (more polluted then what you might be used to due to the different regulations), it's like a magical wonderland. If you have time, make sure to take a stroll on Nevsky Avenue, and while you're there do some shopping in Gostiny Dvor, which is basically a 18century shopping mall (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gostiny_Dvor). Most of all, have tons of fun:)

  27. just so you know, Lipton is made from what they sweep up off the floor at tea processing plants, the very lowest quality. other than that, have fun in russia

  28. I'm so glad I'm not the only one obsessed with Earl Grey tea. People say it's not strong enough, some say it's not flavorful enough. I say it's perfect.

    I never knew that Tim Burton had books, too. I'll have to look into that sometime ^_^. 'Vincent', the Tim Burton short that Leidy posted a link to, is delightfully dark and messed up, so I rather liked it.

    When it comes to tea, I generally make my own, although I usually just drink plain water.

  30. hey, I got this book too!! I found it gloomy but sooo fun (as always in Burton's world!!) I love the drawings by Tim Burton himself...
    In Paris we have a very nice tea shop were they sell the most delicious Earl grey tea in all its varieties ^^ (you should stop by next time you come to France, it's called "le Palais des Thés" )
    xx
