SMOONSTYLE

Some people enjoy the smell of nail polish and nail polish remover, just like they love the smell of gasoline. I am not one of those persons... When I saw an add on Instagram from a brand that claims that their nail polish is vegan, 77% plant-based, and odor - neutral, I was intrigued and directly placed an order. A few days later, the 4 shades and the top and base coat arrived. I was so excited to try it!

Gitti is a conscious beauty brand that creates water-based vegan nail color.
Better for you and better for the environment!

What Gitti says:

'Gitti is an innovation in the beauty industry. We have developed 2 new formulas to offer you a healthier manicure without color compromises. Our formulas are based on natural ingredients. Our colors are vegan and are produced in France, in a responsible way, and without animal testing. We work with a certified laboratory that guarantees an environmentally friendly production and supports our vision with its know-how in the development of nail colors.'

So far I tested two colors that I purchased; 18 Toffee, a beige nude, and 03 Aubergine a dark eggplant.
The other two I still need to test and I will update this post with more swatches for you guys.
With each color, I used the top & base coat, just as the name describes itself, as a base and a top coat.

The brush is wide and the application was a dream! You all know that I need a good brush in order to get nice looking results. The scent was more pleasant than my other nail varnishes. It is not completely odor-neutral.  The texture is a bit more watery than what I am normally used to, but it doesn't drip. Toffee was opaque after one layer and Aubergine after 2 layers. It dries fast.  03 Aubergine didn't stain my nails after I took it off.

Price: €17,36

The first Epica single 'Abyss of Time' is now officially released!!!!

I recorded my vocals for the new album in a different studio back in April. Due to Covid, Mark and I had to search for alternative options. He chose his clothing closet, because of the great acoustics and I found a studio close to my home. Joost was there on the iPad in my vocal booth to listen to the recordings and give directions.  It was the first time for me in my career that I went to work in the morning and came back home in the afternoon.

If you want to see more you can have a look at our Studio Vlog

It is a wonderful feeling that everybody can listen to our new music. I have been humming the melodies for so long.  How do you like the song and the video that we recorded with Grupa 13?

For me, the album has gotten an even deeper meaning than it already has now that we are living in uncertain times. One thing is certain; the healing power of music. What would we be without music and art in general?

Stay safe everybody!

Vincent wanted a Spiderman Cake for his 7th birthday. Challenge accepted!
I had no experience how to create a Spiderman cake, so I turned to Youtube and watched several tutorials of how other people managed to create an awesome Spiderman cake.

I had many different ideas in my head how to do it, but the final result depended on the ingredients and tools that I was able to get my hands on.

The one thing that I never tried before, was working with fondant. I always tried to stay far away from making cakes that required the fondant as an ingredient. I am more a messy baker.
I binge watched all the tutorials that I could find online so that I would make as minimal mistakes as possible.

I ordered some red fondant online and went to the biggest supermarket to make sure that I would get all the ingredients needed for the cake and the decoration. I bought some more red and black fondant, in case my package wouldn't arrive on time. The package arrived on time, but the red fondant was more pink than red. In case my attempt would be a total flop, I also bought a cake topper with Spiderman design. It is always good to have a backup plan.

To make things extra challenging, my dishwasher decided to have an electrical breakdown. Worst timing ever! Of all the things that I don't like when it comes to household chores,  doing the dishes has to be on the top of that list.

The Cake

The recipe that I used to make the chocolate cake is from Sallys Welt. Vincent loves chocolate cake, I think most men do. It was super easy and absolutely foolproof. It is a more dense cake compared to what I normally make, but this is perfect for fondant topping.

I cut off the domed shape of the top of the cake to make it nice and even and set the parts that I cut off aside. I was going to use that part of the cake to make cake pops for the children's birthday party. Cake pops are always a great treat for kids.

Sealing off the cake with two layers of dark and milk chocolate ganache.
Sally has a great converter on her website: Ganache Recipe The ratio between heavy cream and chocolate differs depending on which kind of chocolate you have and how you want to use the ganache. You can use it for topping, but also as a filling layer in between the cake. That was a bit too tricky for me. Besides, I had run out of chocolate so I just went for the ganache topping.

Unfortunately, I didn't have enough red fondant to cover the whole cake, so I took the black fondant to create a belt around the cake, problem solved!
Rolling fondant and making sure it doesn't stick to the countertop was a bit tricky. The fondant roller worked really well, but I didn't have the right baking powder/sugar mixture to spread on the countertop to roll out the fondant. I used icing sugar, but that made the fondant a bit sticky.

Going through my baking supplies, I found this metallic cake/cookie dust that I purchased a while ago. For a second I doubted if I should use it, but decided to go for it. The end result was lovely! It felt a bit like applying makeup to the cake haha!

Now it was time to create the spider webs on top of the cake. You need a steady hand for this and also steady pressure on the tube. I purchased black glitter sugar tubes (sorry, I don't know the name in English) that you use to decorate cookies and cakes with. I bought a pack of 4 colors, gold, white, black and red. The other colors will be put to good use around Christmas time when we will be backing cookies all the time ;)

With a kind of steady hand, I managed to make a decent looking spiderweb.
I decided to also put eyes on the cake, and I totally mismeasured and misplaced them haha! At first, they were too small, then I made a second pair that was bigger and put them on top of the smaller ones.
I placed them too close to each other, creating a rather crossed eye Spiderman haha! The red glitter sugar tube helped me fix the outlines of the eyes a bit.

Vincent loved the cake and that is all that matters. It was the first thing he said when he came walking down the stairs: 'Cool cake mom', he said!

The last give-away of my blog anniversary!

It is the 9th of October, which means that I can show you the mystery give away! It is so incredibly special. Murging two of my favorite worlds together, music and make up!

The band that was my gateway into metal: Cradle of Filth. They have released an awesome eyeshadow palette with even more awesome names!

Say hello to 'Deadly Night Shades'. 9 Beautiful bright and dark shades that are vegan and cruelty free!

Some words from Dani Filth himself:

'Painting flowers white never suited my palette

From poisonous Metallers Cradle Of Filth and VE Cosmetics comes a collaborative make-up palette forged in the very fires of Hell itself.

Thematically represented by various (and nefarious) COF album titles, each titular shade coffined therein embodies the essence of those attributed musical canvasses, granting the wearer instant bewitchment and an achingly beautiful countenance to boot.

The grotesqueries of evil never looked so good!

Available for bringing glamour to your human mask at… '

Self love - Fighting Spirit - Life

This is not a happy post I'm afraid. I find it kind of hard to find the right words. I tried to make a post earlier, but the time wasn't right.

A young mother of three boys has passed away two days ago. Her name is Tamara and she suffered from an incurable liver cancer. I have been following her from a distance since last year through Instagram.

Her story has haunted me ever since. How can life be so unfair? A young mother, a wife, a daughter, a sister. We all knew that day X would come. She talked about her fate so openly on Instagram. I kept checking her profile to see if there was any news, and then I saw that her father posted that she passed away. Right on the day where we presented our new album to the press. I felt tears coming, but had to hold them back for the interviews.

Tamara started an online campaign where she sold a beautiful necklace, with an even more beautiful meaning. It was made to raise awareness of how fragile life can be and how thankful we should be for every day that we are given. Never forget to love yourself, always keep on fighting and enjoy life no matter what happens.

The proceeds went to the DKMS and to her family, her sons and husband. I bought two necklaces, one for myself and one for a friend who was battling cancer and who is now cancer free luckily.

The first photo in this post I made on the day that she died. I was traveling back to Germany and the rain drops on the window were lit by the lanterns on the street. They created this beautiful effect. Like little drops of light, just like all the stars in the sky.

I wish Tamara's family and friends a lot of strength in this difficult time. My heart breaks for them. I am thankful for having contact with her and for her reminding me how precious life is.

RIP Tamara

Meet NOMADE from Chloé.

'A member of a people or tribe that has no permanent abode but moves about from place to place'.

A new perfume has made its way into my collection. When a friend of mine came to visit me, I immediately noticed her perfume and of course complimented her on her lovely scent.

Besides the mesmerising scent, the name of the perfume appealed to me. In a way I feel a bit like a nomade, traveling with my band around the world, living everywhere and nowhere. I felt that there was a deep connection somehow.

First step for me was to not immediately purchase the perfume. Always try it on your skin first.
I went to the store to test the perfume, to see if it would fit me and how it would develop on my skin during the day.

There are three versions of Nomade, an Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette and  Nomade Absolu Eau de Parfum. I tried all three and found the Eau de Parfum to fit me the best.

I purchased the perfume online in the smallest size, 20ml for about €20,00
This is safe way to try new perfumes and don't break the bank. If you still love it after a while, you can always buy a bigger bottle ;)  NOMADE 20ml

  1. Top Notes
    • Freesia
  2. Heart Notes
    • Mirabelle plum liquor
  3. Base notes
    • Oakmoss

My plan was to take photos of 'Nomade' during my holidays at the Bodensee, but I completely forgot about it. I was busy enjoying my holiday ;)

Last weekend we enjoyed a sunny day in the city center of Stuttgart and I took the perfume with me to take photos of it at the fountain at the Schlossplatz. When I was done, I enjoyed the sunset while the little water droplets from the fountain were landing on my back. It was a beautiful day! I love Stuttgart!

Monday is here and I am on a roll! Lot's of exciting things to do this week! I will tell you more about all of that as soon as possible.

Now it is time to talk about my fashion fail that kind of in a way spoiled a photoshoot. For my giveaway month I wanted to make some lovely photos to show you the mini bag from Camys Concept.

I thought long about which dress would look great with the bag and I decided to go with the white dress from Asos. The only problem is that it is a bit see through, the back is quite low and the front is shaped like a halter top. Which bra to wear?

Those stick on bras are ok, but not for hot sweaty days. Strapless bras are my way to go normally, but the one that I chose to wear was showing all the time during the whole shoot.... Total fashion fail. I don't want to spend hours editing the hell out of all the photos, I have other things to do this week ;)

You can see my bra on the last photo, a very sexy grandma bra that normally looks good with other outfits.

Next time, different bra :)
