Blazing Red

by 6.11.12

Business suites have never been my forte, but I do love a nice blazer. You can combine them in so many different ways without looking like you're about to go in to a meeting. My closet contains a couple of black blazers. They come in all shapes and different fabrics. Some I've even worn during live shows in the past.

This past summer Zara came out with a range of really colorful blazers made out of cotton. They are unbelievable comfortable. Sometimes blazers can limit your flexibility. I was searching for a nice yellow blazer since so long, but didn't find the right fit and the right color yellow. I tried the yellow blazer from the Zara collection, but this one was a bit too neon for me.

There was another color that caught my eye. It was their really bright red blazer. That was the one that went home with me. It was a nice memory from my day off in Budapest with Rob during the Epica tour. A big thanks to Rob for being patient enough to go shopping with me. I liked it so much that I decided to take it with me to our Latin American tour in September. Unfortunately, that's where it stayed. I hung it in the closet of the hotel in Buenos Aires. We had a super early lobby call (4 am) the next morning and I forgot to take it out of the closet. When I hung it in the closet to de wrinkle, I knew that I was going to forget about it.

  •  Lipstick YSL Rouge Volupte nr.14
  • Shirt and necklaces from H&M
  • Pants and blazer from Zara

As soon as I landed in Chile, I found out that I forgot it and called the hotel in Buenos Aires to see if it was still there. They told me to call back the next morning to check with the cleaning lady. So I did, but no blazer unfortunately. That means that someone stole it and that really breaks my heart. This blazer had sentimental value and was still so new. How can people just take the belongings of someone else without having a guilty conscious? I couldn't.

After surfing a while on the internet, I found the blazer again on zara.com, but in medium. I ordered it anyway even though my first one was an S. I even saw the blazer at a Zara in Uruguay when we were still on tour, but the exchange rate was not to my advantage and I'd already ordered it on Zara.com. I am glad to be reunited with the blazer and will never hang it in the hotel clothing closet because I know that I will forget about it.

Have you ever lost a piece of clothing that had great value to you?

Love,

  2. aaah i know the feeling. i went lingerie shopping once while on holiday. my duty was to unpack the wardrobe in the hotel, my then boyfriends duty was to unpack the drawer unit. suffice to say, i did my bit he did not do his. we left without the stack of beautiful lingerie..brand new with tags! i was gutted. i called into the hotel the following day..of course no-one knew what i was talking about! it made me so angry for years. ive never been back to that hotel & i NEVER rely on anyone to pack my things either. your red blazer looks amazing & im glad you could replace it. x

  3. You're lucky to have gotten another one. It's really pretty! If the size M is a bit too big you can have it tailored I think. I always lose so much, one time on a train station I got it a bit too hot so I took my cardigan off. Then the train arrived and after a couple of stops I realized I had left my cardigan on a bench at the station. Never seen it anymore since! I've also lost a hat and gloves. Even my winter coat at school a couple of years ago. That one I got back though haha. I think I need to implant chips in all of my clothing. X

  4. I lost my favorite sweater at the Floriade. The sweater was specially printed for a weekend off with friends. At the Floriade it was to hot to wear the sweater, so I put it in my boyfriends backbag. After our visit, at a restaurant, I discovered the sweater was missing. Floriade was already closed. I called the next day, but they've never found my sweater.

  5. I lost my favorite ring a few months back ... washed my hands in a public bathroom and left it at the sink. :( It was a deep teal stone set in a vintage gold band with ornate filigree designs, very beautiful. Thought I could repurchase online, but the site no longer carried it. It's unfortunate to lose an item of clothing or accessory, especially when it holds sentimental value and defines your style.

    1. I have lost my ring exactly like you! but I was at a concert. It was a beautiful Kenzo ring that I had for my 18th birthday... It was a gift from my aunt and I promised her i'll never lose It! unfortunately, I can't afford to buy it...

    2. I've lost so many rings in the bathroom! The last one I lost was my greatest disappointment. It was a large swirly ring made of Indian Silver from Thailand. It was the most expensive and heaviest ring I ever bought, and I loved it to pieces. I lost it in the bathroom once, and found it in the lost and found a week later. However, I was an idiot and lost it in a bathroom for a second time, but this time no one returned it.

    3. I lost a beautiful watch in one of the University's toilets, years ago. I knew I shouldn't take it off to wash my hands, in a question of about 5 minutes I came back and it wasn't there anymore...
It was a gift from my father. =(

    4. Bathrooms are black holes for jewelry. So sorry you ladies lost your rings/watch... guess we just have to take it as a lesson learned and try to keep better track of our belongings. Hope you all found worthy replacements. :)

  6. I lost a beautiful necklace with sentimental value at a hotel too, the worst part is that I realized about it immediately after I left the hotel so I went back there and they already cleaned the room and stoled the necklace, they had me waiting for hours then while they were asking all the maids if they've seen it, but nothing, someone stole it just seconds after I left, and it was just a cheap piece of bijoux, not even real jewerly! I told them that it had a sentimental value for me though but it didn't matter. Don't wan't to be mean with my own continent but... That kind of thing happens a lot in Latinamerica sadly.

    3. Dearies, this is Latin America, I'm mexican and I can say that most people take forgotten things because they consider those like theirs. I'm not saying every person in Latin America is like that but there's a high probability of not finding again lost things. At least in Mexico at malls we don't have the "lost things department" which is so sad as it won't promote honesty.

I have craze to never forget for things when I go travel, but I know how it is. Nice to know who likes colorful blazers Simone! I have one that is black with sequins that is my love. Strange to think of him without being flashy, but it's my love! The clothing is part of a person's personality, and lose a piece makes me really sad.

  10. Thank you for sharing your stories with me! I'm sorry for those that also lost items which had sentimental value to you.
I remember another story; when I went to Disneyland Paris during a very cold winter, I left my leather gloves on the toilet roll and went back straight after, but they were already gone. I was freezing for the rest of the trip and felt sorry because those were given t me by my aunt.
People who steal from others will get their comeuppance one day, but it won't be me stealing from them. That is not what I believe in.

  11. Fortunately, I've been lucky in that respect. I'm so paranoid about losing or forgetting things, that I double check a ton. But, if I had a 4 am call too, I might be too tired and also forget something. It's a shame no one could return it to you! :(

  13. I was in the train (italian trains suck) with a friend of mine and she asked me to show her my cd collection (they were with me because we need it for a school project). The station announced we had to change the train, i remember i had them with me when I left the train... we took the other train and continued the conversation about my cd collection.. "ok wait I'll take them out again... OMG THEY ARE NOT THERE ANYMORE". I left that train and waited for the previous one and I checked all the train but no trace of my cd collection.. That's how I lose all Epica Nightwish Within Temptation Lacuna Coil Kamelot and others' album. After 2 years I bought them all again and I'll NEVER decide to use them outside my home.

  15. You know, Simone, you could hang the blazer on the closet door, that way it can still de-wrinkle and you won't forget it when you leave ;)
With that being said, I lost a necklace once. It was an old, square, Dutch coin from way back in the 20th century (from somewhere around WW2). I had gotten it from my grandmother. I lost it somewhere between leaving house for school and coming back to it, so I could've lost it somewhere on the street, in the subway or in school...

  18. I remember one day that I left one of my favourite bracelets in the dressing room along with my clothes. I went out one moment, and, when I came back, my clothes were there but the bracelet had already been stolen. I couldn't believe it. It was a gift from a friend of mine, who bought that for me in Brazil! I live in the Basque Country, so it was a very special present :(

  21. I haven't had anything stolen from me, but I lent a book to someone and when the person returned it...It was all torn apart, coffee spots all over it. I couldn't recognize it. I was soooo mad and hurt! That was a very special book to me, not just because the story was fascinating, but also because it was a gift from my grandpa (the very last one he gave me before passing away). I made the person buy me a brand new book...But that was not the same, didn't mean as much to me as the other one. I shouldn't have lent it on first place, but I really trusted that person...Guess I was wrong! Anyways, I am sorry for all of you who had your special items stolen. There are very good people out there, but at the same time there are those who are capable of such atrocities. Even so, I still don't uderstand..."All that you've taken from others will be taken from you..."

  22. A few years ago I lost a scarf that I had had for a long time. I always took it with me, even to the trips aboard. Ironically I lost it in the crowd while queuing for Epica gig in Paris. It's a lovely, lovely city - I guess it's better to lose something dear to you in a nice place rather than somewhere unplasant.

  24. I lost a book that I bought while traveling to Europe in which I lost it in a Zara dresser in Dublin Ireland. Since then I noticed I was supposed to meet my travel group around an art museum in which I had to rush to meet them. So while at the art museum I had noticed I wasn't caring the book in any my bags so I went back to the dresser and it wasn't there and I asked if anyone had seen the book I lost in the dresser and nobody seemed to know of any book I was talking about. so I ended up buying another copy of it during the last week of my travel.

  26. I lost my pealre earrings that my mother gave to me. They belonged to her for many years but since she did't wear them anymore, she gave them to me for my a-level exams...
One day I visited a friend and there I changed my earings. I have no clue, where I have lost them, my friend searched for them but she couldn't find them. Maybe I lost them on my way back home, I guess I didn't pack them carefully so they fell out, maybe in the train or on the bus or something, but I will never know =( This made me really sad because I felt guilty somehow, that I lost something my mom had kept for so many years and then they are just gone =(

  27. Some years ago, I left my cellphone inside my mom's car and I forgot about it. The next day my mom took the car to the carwash and the guys from the carwash stole my cellphone. When I remembered about my cel I realized I left it on the car but it was not there anymore :( The hardest part is knowing that many of my pictures, videos and contacts were there and I lost them all. :'(

  28. Dear Simone,
I just wanted to say that I'm really sorry about your blazer being stolen in Buenos Aires. I'm Argentinean, and I feel so ashamed when I read or hear about this sort of things. So, I apologize on behalf of that evil cleaning lady.
It was a good thing that at least you could buy it again.
    Love, Valentina.

  37. 2 years ago I lost my wallet on my English school, had been a christmas gift from my couple and I really like it so much. I were on the reception office playing cards with the receptionist (my friend), my wallet were on the desktop to my side. At the time a person asked for his atention we stop playing and I went to the bathroom. When I went back it was time to go to class again and to my surprise my wallet wasn't there anymore.

I asked him if he had seen it or if he saw someone taking it and he said he didn't know my wallet were there, if he had known, he had put it in a safe place.

The next day, I put cartels offering reward to the person who found (in this case: who stole it) my wallet. I had not money on it, only my bank cards, my ID, drivers license and some pictures that it were really important to me, specially one of my mom when she was 25.

I only wanted the pictures and my documents back, and my wallet too, but even with the promisse of reward, no one gave me it back.

  42. I had lost my glasses at my first Epica concert. I can't see very well without them (and my driver's license is marked to say I'm not legally allowed to drive without them either) and so whenever I was watching and singing along, I would put them on so I could see, but when I headbanged, I took them off.

Well, I got *really* into the Obsessive Devotion that it slipped my mind and ended up flinging them. Completely freaked and tried to get the bouncer's attention, but the music was so loud, I don't think he understood what I was asking. The girl next to me who I had just met attempted to help by using her camera flash to take pictures of the floor to illuminate it to try to find them, but no avail. I ended up missing the entirety of Kingdom of Heaven in my freakout.

Fortunately, somehow, a couple of the women that worked there that were standing over to the side first found them and realized they were mine and came over to hand them to me. :) Had a good laugh about it. They must've left to take care of something after the concert because I couldn't find them to thank them properly. :( Am hoping to catch them again if there is another concert in the Gramercy.
