Beauty Bin #2

by 22.7.13

This is my second 'Beauty Bin' that is filled with beauty related products that have been used up over the last months. I do not use all these products up in one month. Some of these are over one year old. If I would use this in one month, then I would be smearing and showering non stop without sleeping ;)

More about the products after the picture.

My question to you; have you found a great waterproof make up remover that is affordable and gets rid of the strongest of waterproof mascaras? Please let me know in the comments!

Caudalie Huile Divine 15 ml Travel Size
This oil can be used for body, face and hair. I have only used this for my body. It's bigger brother is standing in my closet and is actually a spray. The travel size is just a glass bottle without the spray top. Like this it is more difficult to spread the oil and you will most likely waste some of it too, if you are a bit clumsy like me. For traveling it is not the best because of the glass bottle. Therefor I will not refill it and will use a plastic container instead.

Korres Guava Body Butter 125 ml
One of the best smelling body creams out there. I wouldn't call it a body butter because it is light like a body lotion and nothing like the Bodyshop body butters. I used it mainly for my arms and hands before bed time. I find the scent really calming and perfect before falling asleep. During my review on Korres Guava products, I wrote that it wasn't available in Germany anymore. Well, I found them again in Mueller and already got myself a back up.

Balea Soft Oil Balm 200 ml
Still the perfect body lotion for me. I keep on repurchasing this until they stop making it. It contains 40% oil, so it is really oily. It doesn't make the skin sticky like so many body lotions. A great pro is that it leaves your legs nice and shiny. Perfect for summer legs.

Alverde Shower Gel 'Vanilla Manderin' 250 ml
This smells like lemon cheese cake. It does the job, it's vegan and good for the skin. It cleanses gently, but doesn't really hydrate the skin so well. You would still need to apply a body lotion afterwards.

Korres Guava Shower Gel 250 ml
Since I got so hooked on the scent of guava, I decided to also get the shower gel. I've used it up, it does the job, but is nothing really special. I won't be buying this again because it is way too pricy compared to other cheaper shower gels that do a much better job.

Balea Med Ultra Sensitve Cleansing Milk 200 ml
This I use every morning to gently cleanse my face. It is extremely mild and perfect for my sensitive face. Too many times have I gotten rashes from face wash products. This one is safe to use and has been my nr. 1 since many years.

Bioderma Crealine H20 Make up remover for sensitive skin 500 ml
This has to be the most hyped make up remover in the beauty scene. Many professional make up artists swear by this products, so all the other beauty fanatics run to the shop to get it as well. So did I. This has to be my 8th bottle so far. I use this to take off the make up on my face before I use a face wash. It doesn't take off waterproof mascara unfortunately. I haven't gotten any rashes from this product so I am sticking to it. At the moment I am testing a cheaper alternative from the drug store. Will report back once I've used to for a while.

Rexona Women Deo roller 'Shower Fresh' 50 ml
Smells lovely and does the job. I am trying out different deodorants without aluminum.

P2 Base + Care Coat 10 ml
My base coat for as long as I can remember. Totally affordable and can also be used for a neutral nail if you apply two coats. It dries fast and makes the nail polish last without staining your nails.

Aveo Nail polishr remover 'Berry' without acetone
It dries out my nails and has an excruciating scent. Will not buy this again.
Ebelin makes better nail polishes without acetone that don't dry out my nail or nose and brain for that matter.

Clinique Line Smoothing Concealer '02 Light' 8g
A great concealer that has lasted me years. Now it is time to throw it out because the formula has dried out and it is getting old.

Korres Guava Lip Butter 6g
This was standing at my night desk for quite some time. I never used it during the day because it a white lip butter and also not suitable as a base for lipsticks. The scent is lovely, but I prefer to use other lip care products that are easier to use.

Kryolan Hydro Oil Make Up Remover 300 ml
A great product to take off waterproof mascara. It lasts a long time and does the job pretty well. I still haven't found a make up remover that really takes off that nasty waterproof mascara that lasts for 75 hours.

Dove 'Invisable Dry' deo spray 250 ml
Another deodorant that contains aluminum chlorohydrate. It does the job, but is not the healthiest option for your body. I prefer rollers because they don't suffocate me. Rollers have the disadvantage that it takes forever to dry.

Andrelon 'Oil & Care' intensive conditioner 300 ml
A great drugstore conditioner for slightly dry hair that doesn't wear the hair down. It is affordable and you get a lot of product.

Kerastase Elixir Ultime Shampoo for all hair types 250 ml
The scent got to me, but the oil in the shampoo makes my hair get greasy really fast. There are better shampoos out there that are less pricey.

GHD Heat Protectant Spray 120 ml
I have used this all the time before I would curl my hair. Smells divine and has a great 'spray'. It distributes the product nice and evenly and doesn't leave wet patches in the hair.

Rituals 'Brilliant Bliss' Indian Rose & Shikakai shampoo 70 ml
A great shampoo to travel with. My scalp had to get used to it, but my hair loved it. Super shiny and silky soft. The scent is also amazing! I might get the full size one day.

Carols Daughter Monoi Reparing Hair Mask 200g
A souvenir from my last tour in the US. Absolutely amazing hair mask. It doesn't contain parabens, petroleum, mineral oils or artificial colors. The scent is really strong, you have to like it because it wears like a perfume. The boys in my band loved it and I even had to buy it for one of our crew guys. This seams to be a scent that guys like as well.

  1. The best way to remove waterproof mascara (or any hard to remove makeup) is actually with oil. Any oil really, I use a vegetable oil, just don't get it IN your eye (I did, ouch -_-) just put some on a cotton pad. Works with all the waterproof mascaras I've tried :)

Oil actually solves makeup better than soap and cleansers in most cases.

I love these kinds of posts!
I want to do one myself, I'll post the link when, if you want to check it out ^_^

Love your blog, and I really like it that you write about ingredients too, with a health perspective, that's important to me when I try out products :)

  2. If you use tough and lots of make-up, it is better that you use oil-based makeup removers. But as a waterproof I'm using "L'oreal Gentle Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover" also you can use to clean your lipstick.
I do not like feeling oily my face after use removers but this one is oil-free. Also I use contact lenses so L'oreal is safe for contant lenses too.

  3. I use this Nivea hhttp://i-store.walmart.ca/images/WMTCNPE/93/436/93436_Enlarged_1.jpeg
Is very soft. Has oil and help to protect your eyes. I don't know if in your place there are Nivea products but in Spain are very popular. I love it.
I can't wait to see you baby!!

  4. I always use BIODERMA Micelle Solution "Sensibio H2O" that removes without any problem any type of waterproof makeup (mac, Mufe, inglot, ecc..)

  5. One of the best make up's removers it's "vichy Pureté thermale" http://distilleryimage2.ak.instagram.com/698ef3bea0a311e28bc322000a9d0dcb_7.jpg

Isn't irritant, and leave your skin really soft and clean.

Another cream that I use, It's "cold cream AVON care", and It's one of the best that I have proved, all the mascaras that I use are waterproof, and AVON work really good when you have to remove it ;)

    here the link too:

  6. Hello Simone :) I have the same concern regarding deodorants that contain aluminum, they're not the healthiest option, but it's hard to find aluminum-free products on the market. Could you tell which products are you trying and your opinion about them?

To remove waterproof mascara, my favourite item so far is the "waterproof eye makeup remover" by the Sephora Collection: http://www.sephora.com/waterproof-eye-makeup-remover-P276319 I find it similar to Lancome's Bi-Facial, but much more affordable. Kisses :)

Oh yes I finally found it...it's the demaquillant oil in gel top secrects pro removers from yves saint laurent...it's a little bit expensive but it really works and you can use on all your face you massagge than you wash it away...another good one also it's the bifasic take the day off from clinique, but I prefer the yves saint laurent cause I have only to massage it without using cotton pads to remove all make up
I have a question , I see that you use Kerastase, there are some good products that you recommend, for dry, damaged and colored hair?
    Thank you^^

Hi S, have you tried the DM drogerie waterproof remover PADS? They are pretty much the same as the 2-part remover that I think you have mentioned before but I find the pads work quicker because they are so saturated. They come in a plastic tub so for travel they are ideal. Also, have you tried the Body Shop makeup remover? Im not sure if they do one for waterproof makeup but i love how gentle their one is. Trust all is well.

  12. What do you mean by saying "my scalp had to get used to it"?
And the Reparing Hair Mask sounds awesome!
Unfortunately I can't find most of the brands in my country, but when I'll travel out of it, I'll surely check out some of your recommendations.

  13. Try "Sens'Eyes" by Make Up For Ever, I bought recently super waterproof mascara and had to switch to this one cause my previous was not strong enough

    1. "Sens'Eyes" is excellent, and the cream "So Divine" does its job too, but they are a bit expensive. They are the products that I used before I discovered the Bioderma micellar solution that is able to remove gently all the makeup; to remove waterproof makeup you just need to hold the cotton pad for a little more time on the eyes.

"So Divine" and the "Micellar Solution" are my favorite products above all, but the cream cost around 25€ (without any makeup artist's discount) for 150 ml but the solution cost aroud 17€ for 500 ml (can be found in pharmacies).

  14. Johnson's Baby Oil with camomile. It removes everything amd it's cheap. The best lip balm I have ever tried is Apivita Cocoa Butter which costs me 2 euros. It is 90% natural and I have one for every hand bag. hehe. On the other hand, I always choose Kerastace shampoos because they really work for me and last me for a long time. Kerastace hair maks also work but they are so so pricey. I got so jealous of that hair mask....How do I get my claws on that one without having to visit the States? Eh?

  15. Ok, to take off ALL my makeup I use "Pond's CLARANT B3" it is the pink one, there are different colors and each one is for different things, I think the pink one is for sensitive skin. It may leave your face a bit oily but for that I clean my face after with the "EAU THERMALE Avène Cleanance Gel" which is for oily, blemish-prone skin, also Hypoallergenique- non comedogene. This one is amazing!
I hope you can find the perfect nail polish remover that doesn't dry out your brain! LOL
HAHA which guy from EPICA? Rob? haha tell us! :D

  16. Hi Simone, what do you use to take off waterproof mascara?
As your Bioderma H20 is gone, what are you using to take off your makeup? Have you ever tried a cleasing oil?

p.s.: I love your makeup videos, why did you take it off? :(

  17. Something that always works for me to remove waterproof mascaras, no matter how strong they are is normal Vaseline. And it's super cheap!

  18. Hi Simone... As always I found your posts regarding beauty and skin care very useful! I would love it if you do a post showing all of your stage outfits, I really like the way you look everytime I see you on stage!
    Love from Argentina!

  19. Shu Uemura Cleansing Oil. It's pricey, yes, but that thing is just di-vine! Visit a Shu Uemura shop and I believe they sometimes have a test product they give away. That's how I've proven it anyway...and I have never changed cleansing oils ever since. It doesn't leave your skin oily; and when you wash it out with water it actually acts somewhat like soap.

  22. Just plain olive oil will remove EVERYTHING. The only downside is washing all of the oil off afterwards.

  23. I'm currently using a dual-phase make up remover by a brand called 'Ponds'. It removes waterproof make up really well, at lest it works for me.. It's hypoallergenic so it doesn't irrite sensitive skin also, but the only disadvantage it's that it's a bit oily for mixed skin, but as it does its work well, I'd buy it again. http://www.amazon.com/PONDS-Bio-hydratante-Makeup-Remover-6-75-oz/dp/B004DBS8KQ/ref=sr_1_27?s=beauty&ie=UTF8&qid=1375149657&sr=1-27&keywords=ponds This one is which I'm talking about!. There's also a pink one, but I'm not sure about the difference between them.

  24. Interesting, I have to try some of them. I would like to thank you (so much!!!) for recommending Catrice eyebrow pencil "Blond But Brow'd" for redheads. Last month I've been to Europe for the first time in my life and of course visited Germany, an extremely beautiful country. As I saw Catrice I remembered what you said and immediately grabbed the eyebrow pencil, I must say it completely changed my rutine. Now, doing my eyebrows for every day make up is so easy and fast! =)
As for the eye make up remover I would totally recommend LACA Cleansing Serum. It works for eyelids, lips and eyelashes. It is oily so it takes out waterproof mascaras very easily. The best part is that it dries and leaves the area smooth so that then you don't need to wash it away, and of course it does not irritate sensitive eyes at all. It is not available in Germany but maybe you can get it online.

  25. Hi Simone,
I remove waterproof mascara and the entire eye make-up with 100% vegetable oil. There are a variety of cosmetic vegetable oils out there you can use for this from castor oil (which has a slighlty thicker texture) to grapeseed oil (which is very light).
What I like to do is massage the oil with my ring finger on the eye and eyelashes. Leave it some 1-2 minutes to start breacking the make-up apart and then remove it with a cloth soaked in warm water.
Sesame cosmetic oil is also very good for this because it has antiage properties and is pretty light.
Let me know, how it works for you, if you tried this.
    Love,
    Alex.

  26. Hey,
I'm using Clinique Take the day off (two way make up remover) which is really good in removing waterproof make up and doesn't hurt your eyes. Sometimes I use it to remove eyeliner on the edge of my lower lid and it doesn't sting at all:) I'm not sure how pricey it is vs. the one from Kryolan.

  27. i don't really often use waterproof mascara but i use a lot of waterproof liner...
and when i have to take away those one what i do is i take 1 coton pad, that i cut in two half, i take one half that i wet with my bioderma and put it under one eye, then i take a new coton pad, i put some bioderma on it, close my eyes and put it on my eyes and leave it there while and really gently massage, it takes most of it, works as well to take away gently your falsies!
then because i doesn't take all of it, i use a waterproof eye make up remover (the ones with that have 2 colours a blue and a transparent one from yves rocher) and gently massage the lashes!
i saw the first part of this methode in a video from lisa eldridge and it does help to take away your make up without tearing out your lashes :s
    works for me quite well!
plus the yves rocher make up remover is often in sale (like all the yves rocher stuff are most of the time xD) so you can most of the time get it for half the price if you have or make a card from the shop (their shower gel are great also! love the pomegranate one!)

  28. hi ;D Dove Invisible dry is one the most affordable deodorants, but it does the job and never stains your clothes. I've been trying bio deodorants but (unfortunately) it's still my favourite one.
To remove waterproof mascaras I suggest: sweet almond oil mixed (which is even nourishing)with water on a pad or Bioderma's micellar water :)

  29. For me, the second best waterproof eye make-up remover (after the good and inexpensive Balea) is Lancome's BI-FACIL. I say it's second in line because it is quite pricey and I don't always purchase it because of that. It does wonders. Wipes away every trace of make-up, waterproof or not, and plus, it leaves the skin refreshed, but at the same time hydrated. It feels very comfortable and it doesn't cause any irritation, and that's a plus, as I have sensitive skin as well. The good thing is that it lasts a lot (it has 125 ml!), but it can also be found in travel size, at 50 ml. It works after the same principle as the Balea one (half water, half oil). Another advantage is that both the large and the small version have a childproof cap and you can transport it securely while travelling.

  30. Wow, I wrote down some products and will go right away to my closest DM to buy them :) very nice review indeed. About the spray deo, I totally got your point with the "suffocating" feeling, but after trying a lot of deo's I finally found one that lets me breath, is the Garnier Spray Deo for black and white clothing. It smells really good, does a good job, does not suffocate, and doesn't leave yellow marks in the clothing, is also very cheap in comparison with nivea, dove and other brands. I totally recommend it. You can find it almost everywhere. I also would like to recommend you the Yves Rocher Hydra Vegetal cream, is wonderful and not oily, they had it in offer in 15ml tube, awesome size just to try it out, you can find it in their web page. I hope I helped you as you helped me :) . Kisses from Munich :*

  31. maybe I'm a bit late, but my favorite makeup remover is Clinique "take the day off". I can only recommend, because it takes only a few moments to remove all the makeup and it feels soft on the skin.
nowadays I use another one by Bourjois for sensitive eyes and it also works very well! :)
