SMOONSTYLE

I recently announced on Twitter that I was making "Chit Chat: The Terminal Part II." Here is the story for you to enjoy and for me to now laugh about:

Around 17.00 on a rainy Sunday, I was picked up to drive to the airport at Budapest. It was a one-hour drive where I showed off my microscopic Hungarian dictionary and practiced The Holographic Principle. It wasn't a private concert or anything. I am currently listening to THP on a daily basis to slowly start memorizing the lyrics.

My flight was at 21.15 and I was way too early at the airport – a lot of hours to kill. After some coffee, Mr. & Mrs. Smith, and veggie sticks with hummus, I saw the flight was delayed. 21.50 which then turned into 22.05, and in the end 23.30.

After a tediously slow boarding process, I thought we could take off. I had a kind taxi driver waiting to pick me up from Stuttgart. Oliver had to call him several times to move up the appointment.

"Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention please." Here we go... "There has been a problem with the seating of the passengers, and we have to double check that everybody is sitting in the seat that was assigned to them."

My initial thought was someone with bad intentions might have got on the plane. Around 23.30 the plane took off – I had a weird feeling the whole flight.

During the flight, the stewardess announced that we were not allowed to land in Stuttgart anymore, because it was after midnight. We were set to land in Cologne...

The ambience on the plane was tense and of course some people showed their discontent. I stayed calm as long as I could, but behind me a group of women around the age of 50 were yapping so loud and making jokes. I almost couldn't take it anymore. I remained calm, trying to think of solutions on how I could get home.

Normally a flight company will offer a hotel stay and rebook a flight for you – this was not the case for us. After we landed at 1.00 AM, we were sent to the check-in counter of German Wings. A lady was waiting to give us information on how we all would get home.

German Wings offered us a bus, which held only 56 seats (the people on the plane were at least triple that amount), the train, or a rental car. No hotel, no new flight, no taxi drive (if we could find a taxi driver crazy enough).

A kind guy, who sat in my row, offered to get a rental car together and drive to Stuttgart. I was a bit hesitant, which is totally normal – I didn't know this guy. Soon after, my direct neighbor also wanted to join with his wife. That made four and off we went.

Onto Europcar. A lot of people thought it was better to take a rental car than the train or bus where seats were limited and the drive would take longer. The line was long. The guy behind the counter almost finalized the first contract to then find out he didn't have the card to get the cars out of the parking spot...

We were told to take a taxi to Bonn and get a car there, so we did, and got a nice rental. Both guys took turns driving with the help of energy drinks and chips. Lindsay and I started talking about everything and exchanging our travel experiences in other countries. The drive went by fast.

At 6.45 we arrived in Stuttgart, all looking and feeling like zombies. We went our separate ways after returning the car to Europcar and took the train back home.

Another journey with a delayed arrival. I met nice people and "hitchhiked" for the first time in my life.

Thanks for bringing me home guys!

Spider Boy to the rescue!

Last week we had quite the adventure! After we brought my mom to the train station, we discovered that she had left her phone at our place. Out of all things that you can forget, the phone and passport are the worst if you ask me! We rushed back to our local train station to see if she might have stayed, but she was on her way to the main station in Stuttgart.

Nowadays we are so lost if we don't have our phone with us. We all know that it is not just a device to call  each other, but more like tiny computers that hold our entire life. I did what I thought was right, and jumped in the car with Vincent to drive to the Stuttgart Central station.

I called my dad and told him that we were on our way to Stuttgart and that in case she would call him from a phone booth he could let her know.

Why is it always like this when you are really in a hurry that you take the wrong exit? Yes, that happened to me. Driving around in Stuttgart can be a nightmare and is very stressful. There were construction sites everywhere. I was starting to lose hope that we would reach her on time.  I knew when her next train would leave and that we only had a couple of minutes left. I saw that time was running out. Let's not forget the struggle to find a parking spot......

When I was close to give up, I decided to stay focused and keep a positive mindset. Spider Boy and me found a parking spot next to the taxis and ran as fast as we could to track number 10, where my mom was waiting for us.

I hate jogging and am not the best runner, but my determination was stronger than my stamina ;)
We made it 3 minutes before her train would depart!! We had to run back to our car, because our parking spot wasn't ideal and I didn't want to get a ticket.

The feeling afterwards that we made it was incredible! My mom was so relieved and I was glad that we didn't give up in the end. It really made my day.

In the end a positive mindset and will power can be the key to any achievement in life.

Ps. I took the photo of Spider Boy while we were parked. Safety first! Don't text and drive.

A little trip to the beautiful 'Altes Schloss' in Stuttgart is always a good idea. On Saturdays not so much, but let's just forget that it was a Saturday. It is almost impossible to get through the Königsstraße or to pay for your chewing gum at the DM (local drugstore).
Saturdays are the best days to avoid the city haha. I decided against that.

Two of my (many) favorite spots in Stuttgart are the 'Alte Kanzlei' and the 'Altes Schloss' (museum). The Alte Kanzlei is a lovely restaurant that has delicious Käsespätzle, which is a Swabian dish. You can compare to MAC and Cheese, but then with caramelized onions on top. Farts are included.

It is scrumptious and kind of feels like the seven lambs filled your stomach with stones. I do not recommend to go swimming afterwards, you might drown.

Take my advice and share a Käsespätzle dish with a friend. You can thank me later ;)

Germany is and will probably always be on of my favorite holiday destinations.

Some time ago I had my friends over from the Netherlands. We packed our bags and went to the same hotel in Todtmoos, which is close to the Titisee. Oliver and me were there 2 summers back and loved it so much that we went back there again.

The second part of our holidays took place at the Wilhelma Zoo in Stuttgart. A must see when you are in Stuttgart. Besides all the animals, they have beautiful gardens to roam through. I've been here at least 4 times already.

What are your favorite animals to visit when you are at the Zoo?

Stuttgart is a wonderful city. I recently had my parents over from the Netherlands and we were exploring the surroundings a bit. One of our many favorite places in Stuttgart is Killesberg Park. We took the little railway train, had some drinks and ate ice cream. We enjoyed our stay very much. The weather was amazing and that plays a big part.

Here are some pictures shot by Oliver with my Canon 700D with the 40mm f2.8 lens. It is a great camera which I have grown very fond of. The lens is amazing too. My Nikon D300s I don't use that often anymore because it is too heavy for on the go. For studio shoots it still is amazing.

My question to all the camera lovers out there:

Could you recommend me a camera and a lens that would be a good upgrade from the Canon 700D, but still is kind of light weight? I have been researching the 70D and the 24-70f 2.8 mm lens. They seem like good candidates to take it to the next level.

I find the flip screen really useful for the family and self portraits. Built in WiFi is also great. The 7D doesn't have that. The 5D Mark III is very expensive, but if I were to sell both my Canon and Nikon including the Nikon lenses which are the 18-200mm and the 50mm f1.8, it would be no problem. The Canon 6D has built in WiFi, is full frame and still quite light weight. That could be the one.

What I want in a camera body:

  • Full Frame
  • Built-in WiFi
  • Flip screen if no built in WiFi
  • Light weight
  • Price range €1000 - €1500

Bananas are not only super tasty, they look great on a T-Shirt as well! If the shirt is yellow as well it is even better. The trousers are very flattering and on top of that comfortable!

Stuttgart has a large Peek and Cloppenburg store at the Königstraße where you can shop until you drop. I saved my visit to P&C until the last part of my day in Stuttgart with Vincent, so my energy was pretty much spent, and so was Vincent's. He was very helpful at finding this outfit. He knows that I love black and yellow. He also is a big fan of bananas just like his mama. Don't all kids love bananas? Well, this big kid too ;)

Meet NOMADE from Chloé.

'A member of a people or tribe that has no permanent abode but moves about from place to place'.

A new perfume has made its way into my collection. When a friend of mine came to visit me, I immediately noticed her perfume and of course complimented her on her lovely scent.

Besides the mesmerising scent, the name of the perfume appealed to me. In a way I feel a bit like a nomade, traveling with my band around the world, living everywhere and nowhere. I felt that there was a deep connection somehow.

First step for me was to not immediately purchase the perfume. Always try it on your skin first.
I went to the store to test the perfume, to see if it would fit me and how it would develop on my skin during the day.

There are three versions of Nomade, an Eau de Parfum, Eau de Toilette and  Nomade Absolu Eau de Parfum. I tried all three and found the Eau de Parfum to fit me the best.

I purchased the perfume online in the smallest size, 20ml for about €20,00
This is safe way to try new perfumes and don't break the bank. If you still love it after a while, you can always buy a bigger bottle ;)  NOMADE 20ml

  1. Top Notes
    • Freesia
  2. Heart Notes
    • Mirabelle plum liquor
  3. Base notes
    • Oakmoss

My plan was to take photos of 'Nomade' during my holidays at the Bodensee, but I completely forgot about it. I was busy enjoying my holiday ;)

Last weekend we enjoyed a sunny day in the city center of Stuttgart and I took the perfume with me to take photos of it at the fountain at the Schlossplatz. When I was done, I enjoyed the sunset while the little water droplets from the fountain were landing on my back. It was a beautiful day! I love Stuttgart!

Hi Sweets,

We are currently enjoying the lovely weather in the South of Germany.

Last Monday we went to the Rosenstein Park in Stuttgart. We walked from the park into the city center to have lunch at 'Dean and David', one of our favorite places.

Enjoy the pictures!

Noa by Cacharel eau de toilette has been a perfume I know for years. My mother wears this amongst a couple of other scents, but this one is my preferred perfume and kind of her signature scent. I connect this with her and somehow never really saw it as an individual scent. After my show in Utrecht I stayed at my parents house and decided to give it a try. I liked it so much that I got a 30 ml bottle at the Douglas in Cologne on my way home to Stuttgart.

I find it a stable scent that doesn't change when I wear it compared to my mother. Maybe it is because we are related, maybe not.

The notes are white musk (love white musk), peony, pepper, benzoin, incense and coriander. It's design is totally my thing, I love round sleek perfume bottles with not too big lids. Easy to travel and a timeless classic in my world of scents. Good for many that this is very affordable.

Do any of you wear your mothers perfume sometimes? Let me know!

Price: 30ml €19,95

Hi Guys,

When you know that I am the Candy Queen of Metal, you know that you can expect something sweet every once in a while on my blog.

Today we are talking about Macaroons. I recently had my very first macaroon when I was in Stuttgart. They always appealed to me because of their color, but the taste is even greater. These are again stones for the stomach, so don't eat too many of them. Your wallet might hurt after buying a couple of these, they are 1 euro a piece, but they are little bombs of heaven. My favorite is the pistachio and mango. My sister also tried her first macaroon and was not sure how they would taste like, by looking at them. She was a little skeptical at the beginning but changed her mind quickly after tasting it.

If you'd like to know a bit more about the history of Macaroons you could visit this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Macaron

Next time when I am in Paris, I shall pay a visit to Laduree.

Bon Appetit!

Love,
